Otoplasty

Otoplasty

Many patients, particularly young children of school age are not satisfied with the shape and size of their ears. Often these children feel ashamed by their friends because their ears appear to be ridiculously large or asymmetrical, while adults cover their ears by keeping long hair. This intervention should be performed by surgeons with experience and resulting in a very good aesthetic appearance which will increase the self-confidence and life quality of the patient.

Usually surgery is performed under local anesthesia but in toddlers who cannot stay very calm it can be performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation is from an hour and a half to two hours, depending on the ears defect. The patient must do checkups the first three months in every two-three weeks.

Rehabilitation after surgery

  • The patient leaves at home bandaged, the day of intervention.
  • Bandage will be held over seven days.
  • Stitches will be removed after 8 or 10 days.
  • The patient feels a bit pain only the intervention day, while at other times is negligible. Strong unbearable pain is a sign of wound infection.
